Democratic Houston Businessman Challenges Abbott For Texas Governor

A Houston businessman is in the running for governor of Texas. Andrew White, son of former Governor Mark White, announced his candidacy on Wednesday.

White says he will run in the Democratic primary as an independent. He claims Republican Governor Greg Abbott “answers to extremists,” and accuses Abbott of mishandling Medicaid, education, the 2021 winter storm, and the July 4th flash floods. White unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for governor in 2018.
