The absence of dozens of Texas House Democrats is obstructing more than the vote on a redistricting map favored by the GOP. Governor Greg Abbott has an 18-item agenda for the 30-day special session that’s in progress, and they’re all on hold as long as the House has no quorum.
The top priorities include Hill Country flood response and relief, the regulation of hemp-derived THC products, limits on local property taxes, and a requirement that people use only public bathrooms that are appropriate to their biological sex.
