A hotel being built in downtown Houston won’t open this month as planned, following an explosion in the building on Thursday.
The Houston Fire Department says a bank of tankless water heaters blew up at the new Holiday Inn Express on Texas Avenue near Austin Street. The blast injured six workers on the site.
The hotel has been under construction for two years, part of a new hotel boom in downtown Houston due in part to next summer’s World Cup. The 2028 Republican National Convention is also coming to Houston.
