The Federal Aviation Administration is set to furlough eleven-thousand employees as the U.S. government shutdown begins. U.S. airlines have warned the shutdown could slow flights as air traffic controllers and security officers will be forced to work without pay.

More than 13-thousand current air traffic controllers will be required to continue working without pay until the shutdown has ended. The eleven-thousand employees being furloughed make up about a quarter of the FAA’s staff.
