Texas Governor Greg Abbott is praising the state House for passing a plan to re-draw congressional maps.

The governor said in a statement Wednesday evening he’ll sign the bill when it reaches his desk. Abbott said while Democrats shirked their duty and ran away to other states, Republicans stayed the course, stayed at work and stayed true to Texas.

The new congressional maps would give Republicans five more seats in the U.S. House. Abbott said on X the maps would make his state and Congress “a brighter shade of red.”
