A South Texas native is entering the race for governor. Democratic Representative Gina Hinojosa announced her candidacy during an event in Brownsville Wednesday.
Hinojosa was born in Mission in 1973, and currently serves as a state representative in the Austin area. She reportedly chose to make her announcement in South Texas to emphasize her connections to the region. She enters an already crowded field of Democrats who hope to take on Governor Greg Abbott in next year’s election.
