Houston City Council is looking into the possibility of banning all electric scooters from downtown and the surrounding areas.

The council’s Quality of Life Committee met Thursday to discuss safety concerns, complaints about crime and property damage, and the absence of existing regulations.

The city has no speed limits, curfews, or vendor rules concerning scooters. Scooter companies that set up shop in Houston for this reason now support regulations instead of a ban.

Scooters are becoming linked to vandalism, trespassing, and violent crime by teenage offenders, especially in the Discovery Green area.
