Protesters are demanding the release of a McAllen family that was detained by ICE late last month. Luis Antonio Gamez, Emma Guadalupe Cuellar and their three children were reportedly taken into ICE custody on February 25th.
The family sought asylum in the U.S. as part of the CBP One Program in 2023 and were attending regular court hearings and check-ins before their detention.
The three children attended school in McAllen, and all three were part of the school system’s mariachi program. Most of the family is being detained at a facility in Dilley, but 18-year-old Antonio Gamez-Cuellar is being held at the El Valle Detention Center in Raymondville.
Dozens of protesters went to the Raymondville facility yesterday to show support and demand his release.
