Seven bars will be allowed to operate temporarily after they were shut down by the City of Brownsville this week.
The bars at Sunshine Plaza were shut down on Wednesday after the city revoked their certificates of occupancy. Officials said the bars were not in compliance with a city ordinance, adding the shutdowns were part of an effort to improve public safety and reduce late-night disturbances.
A Cameron County judge issued a restraining order to allow the bars to reopen yesterday, and a hearing is expected in the next two weeks.
