Kerr County commissioners aren’t in a hurry to raise property taxes, but they acknowledge cleanup from this month’s floods will be costly. At their meeting on Monday, appraisers presented a preliminary estimate that the county lost 200 million dollars in real estate value because of the floods.
Last week, commissioners unanimously directed the tax assessor-collector to calculate the maximum tax rate the county could charge without seeking voter approval. That action triggered rumors of an impending tax hike.
