A Texas National Guard soldier is facing up to ten years in federal prison for human smuggling. The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas announced the conviction of 27-year-old Mario Sandoval Tuesday.
Sandoval was assigned to the Rio Grande Valley during Operation Lonestar, and investigators say he remained in the area after he was released from his orders. He reportedly began smuggling people in July of last year. Sandoval will be sentenced in October.
