Texas Republican officials are asking an Illinois court to enforce arrest warrants against Democratic lawmakers who fled the state to obstruct a vote on a GOP-backed redistricting map.
House Speaker Dustin Burrows issued the civil arrest warrants on Monday. Attorney General Ken Paxton is asking Illinois’ conservative Eighth Judicial Circuit Court to enforce the warrants under the “full faith and credit” clause of the US Constitution.
The proposed new congressional map aims to add five GOP seats ahead of the 2026 midterms.
