EMS personnel in Pharr will be the first in South Texas to use a new treatment for bleeding wounds. The city announced Tuesday that it will begin using a plant-based gel to help quickly control bleeding and stabilize patients.

Every ambulance and command vehicle will be equipped with one unit of the gel. City officials say Pharr EMS is the first group to use the gel south of the Houston area.
