Texas public school students take one standardized test a year, called the STAAR test. That could turn into three smaller tests under legislation that’s current being debated in Austin.

Bob Popinski with the group Raise Your Hand Texas says the House and the Senate have two different paths forward. The House plan calls for schools to use one of the big tests that are currently offered.

The Senate version calls on the state to create it’s own test. The final compromise must be finished by Saturday at midnight.
