A high-tech firm thinks it has found a loophole in the law, allowing people to place sports bets even in states like Texas where gambling is illegal.

The website is called Kalshi, and they’re currently facing a number of lawsuits, including one from a group called “Texans Against Gambling.”

Attorney Andy Schlafly says the site claims that, instead of taking bets, they’re selling commodities. And that’s regulated by the same market that also handles things like gold and corn futures.
