A suspect in the 2023 death of San Benito Police Lieutenant Milton Resendez has entered a guilty plea. Twenty-five-year-old Rodrigo Axel Espinosa Valdez was originally charged with capital murder of a peace officer, but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of murder on Tuesday.
Espinoza Valdez was one of two suspects arrested after a pursuit in Cameron County that led to Resendez’s death. He still faces charges of attempted capital murder and evading arrest connected to the 2023 pursuit.
