By A man convicted of a 1998 double murder in Harris County is the first person executed in Texas this year.
Charles Thompson was convicted in 1999 for the shooting deaths of his ex-girlfriend Dennise Hayslip and her new boyfriend Darren Cain. Thompson received the lethal injection in Huntsville on Wednesday night.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals denied his motion for a stay on Tuesday. Thompson’s execution was the first of four scheduled in Texas this year.
