Texas is buying land to build more state parks. The Legislature created the billion-dollar Centennial Parks Conservation Fund in 2023, and voters gave it their approval. That same year, Fairfield Lake State Park closed after the company that leased the land to the state decided to sell it to a developer.
There are still 17 Texas parks on leased land. The state is buying more land to create parks that can’t be sold. Centennial funds are being used to create Post Oak Ridge State Park in Burnet and Lampasas Counties, among other parks.
