The Texas Secretary of State’s Office is confirming that Texas officials have turned over the state’s voter roll to the US Justice Department. The move was done to comply with the Trump administration’s demands for access to data on millions of voters nationwide.

The Justice Department asked all 50 states for their voter rolls in the fall, the better to enforce election law that requires states to maintain voter lists by removing ineligible voters. Texas reportedly sent its voter roll of more than 18 million registered voters to the DOJ late last month.
