A bill requiring adults in Texas to use public bathrooms that are appropriate for their biological sex has the preliminary approval of the Texas House. Two Democrats joined Republicans in passing Senate Bill 8 on Thursday by an 86-43 vote.
The bill applies to restrooms and locker rooms in government buildings, schools, jails, prisons, and family violence shelters.
The Senate has already passed the bill, which will head to Governor Greg Abbott’s desk if the House approves it in a final vote. Abbott has said he will sign it.
