A bill on its way to Governor Greg Abbott will put a stop to daylight savings time in Texas, if the federal government approves.

The bill by Conroe Republican Representative Will Metcalf will make daylight savings time year-round in the state, establishing Texas Time. Senator Paul Bettencourt, a Houston Republican, sponsored the bill in the Senate.

States are allowed to use standard time year-round, but not daylight saving time. The Texas bill will take effect if the federal government changes that policy.
