A bill that would do away with the STAAR test is on its way back to the Texas House after the Senate passed a tweaked version of it on Wednesday. House Bill 8 would replace STAAR with three shorter tests to be administered throughout the school year.

The Senate passed the bill on a 21-5 vote after making a slight change concerning the social studies section of the test. If the House agrees to the change, the bill will go to Governor Greg Abbott’s desk for his signature.
