Metro areas in the U.S. are experiencing lower immigration rates, especially along the southern border.
New data released by the Census Bureau found that approximately 75 percent of all counties’ overall population growth – which includes immigration, domestic migration, births and deaths – either slowed or turned negative.
Data suggest large urban counties and border counties, once surging in new arrivals, are now among the hardest-hit parts of the country. The decline is expected to continue as the Trump administration proceeds with its immigration crackdown.
