Texas is about to lose a lot of its clout on Capitol Hill with the departure of at least a quarter of the state’s congressional delegation next year.
Six Republicans and three Democrats have announced they’re not running for reelection at the end of this term. Four incumbents face serious challengers in the primary, and three South Texas incumbents are up against competitive challenges in the general election.
Up to 17 Texas representatives may bow out next year, taking their institutional knowledge and committee seniority with them.
