Extreme heat alerts are in effect for millions in the Western U.S. Health officials are urging people to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activity as the mercury soars from Phoenix, Arizona to Seattle, Washington.
The Pacific northwest is expecting hotter than usual temperatures through Monday with highs in the mid to upper 90s in Portland, Spokane and Boise. The extreme heat will continue to raise wildfire concerns across the Southwest.
