Texas officials are considering ways to boost camp oversight following the deadly July 4th floods.

The Texas Department of State Health Services on Tuesday proposed raising the annual licensing fees for camp operators by thousands of dollars, based on the size and type of camps.

A spokesman for a camp lobbying firm says most camp owners recognize that the fee hike is necessary to allow the state agency to hire more inspectors and rebuild the youth camp program.
