State Senator Mayes Middleton is the Republican nominee for Texas attorney general after defeating U.S. Representative Chip Roy in Tuesday’s primary runoff. Middleton is an oil and gas executive from Galveston who spent more than 16 million of his own dollars on the race.

Attorney General Ken Paxton left the position open when he challenged U.S. Senator John Cornyn for his seat. Middleton and Roy both promised to continue Paxton’s effort to champion conservative causes through the courts.
