Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson is announcing her upcoming resignation. Nelson stated on Tuesday she will resign as of July 17th. She became secretary of state in 2023 after serving as a Republican in the state Senate for 30 years.
Nelson’s press release didn’t say why she’s resigning from her role as the state’s top election official. State law requires Governor Greg Abbott to nominate a replacement “without delay.” No word yet as to whom he may be considering for the position.
