By South Padre Island is mourning the death of one of its city council members. The city announced the death of Ken Medders Junior on Saturday.
Medders was first elected to the city council in 2017 and served until his death. He also served as a city alderman in the early 1990s.
Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, Junior, praised Medders in a weekend statement, saying he served the residents of South Padre Island with pride, integrity and commitment to the community.
