Border wall construction is set to begin this week at the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge in Alamo. A social media post last week indicated that construction would likely close the levee to bicycle and foot traffic for the rest of the summer.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection website shows that a project titled Rio Grande Valley Four runs along a nearly three-mile route that intersects the top portion of the refuge along the levee. Bicycle riders were advised to use the Bobcat Trail as a detour until the levee reopens.
