A South Texas man who was arrested in Mexico after 13 years as a fugitive has made his first court appearance in the U.S.

Former Hidalgo County District Clerk Omar Guerrero appeared in federal court in Houston yesterday. He waived his preliminary appearance and detention hearing, requesting that they be held in McAllen instead.

The judge ordered a transfer to the McAllen division, with a first appearance set for July 8th. Guerrero has been wanted on drug and sexual assault charges since 2013.
