A McAllen nun has been released from custody after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

Our Lady of Sorrows Church announced the detention of Sister Letty on social media Sunday. The church said she was on the way to Mass when she was detained. Several South Texas lawmakers reportedly contacted multiple federal officials, such as DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin, to obtain the nun’s release.

ICE has not responded to requests for additional information about Sister Letty’s detention.
