A rare copy of the Declaration of Independence has been found in a British archive.
A volunteer at the National Archives in London says he was cataloguing 18th-century letters from the British Navy last month when he came across a previously unknown copy of the U.S. Declaration printed in 1776 in Exeter, New Hampshire, where several copies were printed known as the Exeter Broadsides.
Only a handful of the copies are thought to have survived. The archive unveiled the copy on Thursday, and said the fact that it was found among the British Navy letters demonstrates how news traveled in 1776.
