A South Texas judge has denied a request to put a lawsuit over a teen’s death on hold. The parents of Larissa Rodriguez sued a drink distributor after the Weslaco High School cheerleader died last year.
Rodriguez allegedly died of an enlarged heart caused by excessive caffeine consumption, and her family blames her death on an energy drink distributed by the company.
The company asked for a pause in discovery and preparation for the trial while they appeal a previous ruling, but that request has been denied. The company is now expected to ask the Court of Appeals to delay the case until the original appeal is decided.
