A man is facing charges in McAllen after a state trooper found drugs, guns and ammunition in his vehicle earlier this month.
Investigators say the trooper stopped a gray Chevy Silverado near the intersection of South Tenth Street and Savannah Avenue on July 9th. The driver said he was traveling from Houston to Monterrey, Mexico, and refused permission to search the vehicle.
A K-9 officer did a free-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted investigators to the presence of drugs. The resulting search found several pounds of marijuana, 23 pistols and over 11-thousand rounds of ammunition.
Sixty-five-year-old Elfego Benavides of Katy was charged with multiple drug and weapons-related felonies following his arrest.
