Voucher Secrecy Leaves Texas Districts Guessing

Texas school districts are building fall budgets without all their voucher data. According to the Houston Chronicle, the Comptroller’s Office is refusing to show local award counts to any district with fewer than 30 recipients, citing privacy concerns.

That blackout leaves roughly 16-thousand voucher awards untracked across nearly 700 school systems. Because state funding is calculated using average daily attendance, district leaders say missing local numbers creates planning uncertainty for the upcoming school year.
