A Republican congresswoman wants to bring back the death penalty as a punishment option in Washington, DC. Nancy Mace has introduced the Restoring the Death Penalty in DC Act in the House of Representatives.
The act would allow prosecutors to seek the death penalty for a variety of charges, including first-degree murder, murder of a law enforcement officer, first-degree child sexual abuse and some acts of terrorism.
The District’s death penalty was repealed in 1981, and an attempt to restore it in 1992 was shut down by voters.
