Cameron County’s sheriff says he will follow the law when it comes to the extradition of an ICE agent wanted in Minnesota. Sheriff Manuel Trevino filed his response to a federal lawsuit over the extradition of Agent Christian on Friday.

Castro has been charged with several counts of assault tied to a January shooting in Minneapolis and has been in custody in Cameron County since May. Minnesota filed a lawsuit earlier this month after Texas Governor Greg Abbott refused to sign an extradition order.

Trevino says he will release Castro from custody when a 90-day hold period expires unless a federal court orders otherwise. A hearing on Minnesota’s lawsuit is set for tomorrow.
