A Houston City Council meeting is scheduled for today to discuss what to do about a local ordinance that threatens state public safety funding.

The council recently adopted an ordinance that ends the HPD policy of giving ICE agents 30 minutes to show up if officers encounter people with immigration warrants.

A week ago, Governor Greg Abbott threatened to withdraw 110 million dollars in public safety funds if the ordinance isn’t repealed. On Tuesday, Mayor John Whitmire proposed an amendment to the ordinance for council to consider.
