A federal appeals court is upholding a Texas law that requires public schools to display the Ten Commandments. The Legislature passed Senate Bill 10 in 2025, mandating every public elementary and secondary classroom post a copy of the Commandments.
A lawsuit argued the law violates the First Amendment. In its ruling released Tuesday, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals said the law doesn’t violate the amendment because it doesn’t punish anybody who rejects the Ten Commandments, regardless of the reason.
