House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries says the party is closely watching a GOP-led redistricting effort in Texas and said they are backing state lawmakers who oppose it. He danced around the idea of a quorum break, saying that “all options should be on the table.”

Leaving the state comes with risks. Democrats would face a 500-dollar daily fine and the threat of arrest. State Attorney General Ken Paxton suggested this week that lawmakers should be locked up at the state capitol for the rest of a special session, forcing them to sleep and eat in their offices, in order to get the maps passed.
