A federal appeals court is affirming the sentence for Texas death row inmate Brittany Holberg. Friday’s ruling by the full panel of 18 judges in the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals reverses a decision by the same court last year.
An Amarillo jury convicted Holberg of capital murder in 1998 for the deadly robbery of an elderly man in his home. The former sex worker claimed self-defense. Based on an apparent irregularity with a prosecution witness, a three-judge panel on the Fifth Circuit reversed Holberg’s conviction in 2025.
