A Florida woman is recovering from a weekend alligator attack. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission says she was swimming with friends in the Silver River in Marion County on Saturday when a gator bit her.

She wound up losing her right arm, but it could have been worse if it wasn’t for a nearby boater. He rushed to the scene when he heard screaming, scared away the gator, used a rope as a tourniquet on the woman’s arm and took her to the nearest boat ramp where rescuers took her to the hospital.

She’s home now, and the nine-and-a-half foot gator was trapped and removed from the river yesterday.
