A new poll shows Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico in a virtual tie in their race for U.S. Senate. The Texas Politics Project at U-T Austin released the poll on Tuesday. It shows Paxton leading Talarico 43 to 42 percent, with a three-and-a-half percent margin of error.

Momentum seems to favor Paxton, since the same pollster’s April survey had him trailing Talarico by eight percentage points.

The poll shows Republican support solidifying behind Paxton following his defeat of longtime incumbent Senator John Cornyn in a contentious GOP primary.
