A heavy-metal band is giving financial support to South Texas College. The Metallica Scholars Initiative has awarded a 75-thousand-dollar grant to South Texas College.

The money will fund scholarships and other costs for students in the Advanced Manufacturing and Mechatronics Technology programs.

The initiative is funded through Metallica’s nonprofit foundation, which supports workforce training and skilled trades programs.
