A South Texas nun has been named one of Time magazine’s Women of the Year. Sister Norman Pimentel of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley received the honor last week. She spoke about her work with the Humanitarian Respite Center in McAllen in an interview, saying the center is focusing more on the local community now that illegal immigration numbers have fallen in South Texas.

She said that the respite center continues to feed hundreds of people every week while also offering emergency relief services and rent and utility assistance. She was one of 16 women honored by Time.
