The results of Tuesday’s Republican primary runoffs in Texas demonstrate the power of President Donald Trump’s support for a candidate.

Attorney General Ken Paxton defeated longtime incumbent Senator John Cornyn. State Senator Mayes Middleton defeated U.S. Representative Chip Roy in the race to replace Paxton.

In the newly drawn 35th Congressional District, newcomer Carlos De La Cruz defeated three-term state Representative John Lujan, who was backed by Governor Greg Abbott. All three winners had Trump’s endorsement.
