State officials are checking to see whether thousands of registered voters who may not be citizens may actually have their paperwork in order.

The Texas Secretary of State’s Office is following up on more than 27-hundred voters who may have already provided their proof of citizenship to the Department of Public Safety.

County elections officials say the federal database used to create the list of possible noncitizen voters had flagged some people who had already given their citizenship documentation to the DPS when they registered to vote.
