The Texas Supreme Court is blocking Galveston County from using new districts for the November general election.
Friday’s ruling stated county leaders had improperly redrawn the district lines after the primaries. The county is directed to use the same precinct maps as the March primary election. Precinct boundaries, which affect elections for county commissioners, constables and justices of the peace, were redrawn and approved June 29th.
State law gives commissioners the power to redraw precinct lines “from time to time,” but the court ruled that it doesn’t mean whenever they want.
