McAllen is getting a six-million-dollar grant to help improve infrastructure at the city’s industrial park. U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced the grant at the GE Aerospace facility yesterday.

Lutnick credited Republican Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz with helping to secure the funding, which came from the Economic Development Administration.

Lutnick also announced that another 34 million dollars in private funding has been secured to help pay for the new infrastructure. Lutnick is the first sitting Commerce Secretary to visit the Rio Grande Valley.
